OR-X delivers high-quality surgical training infrastructure and services for hands-on surgical training courses for industry, university, and hospital clients. Our training facility specializes in wet-lab surgeries using real human anatomy and surgical instruments in a realistic operating room environment.

With expert staff and integration into Balgrist University Hospital, we offer comprehensive training solutions and event possibilities, including live surgery symposia. As part of the PROFICIENCY federal project, the OR-X represents cutting-edge surgical education technology, providing scalable and advanced training methods.

OR-X Training Infrastructure

The OR-X lab infrastructure can accommodate courses with up to 50 participants. It consists of a fully equipped operating room and the adjacent Skills Lab, which can be booked separately or together. The flexible room layout and extensive equipment allow us to offer and perform all surgical specialities:

Our Brainlab Digital OR integration makes delivery of training instruction effortless, with visualisation of intraoperative images and live streaming.
Basic surgical instruments, radiation protection and power tools are included in the room rental. Up to two state-of-the-art cone-beam CT scanners can be used for intraoperative imaging at an additional charge.

The room booking includes the administrative, surgical and technical staff necessary for the smooth running of your course. A trained surgical assistant will be present in the wet lab throughout the course to assist with instrumentation and intraoperative imaging.

A complete human-specimen management service is also offered. Specimens are organized and prepared by OR-X and made available for your course. Upon request, the customer's surgical instruments can be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized in our ex-vivo reprocessing facility.

Scientific and clinical services enable the delivery of advanced course formats. Clinical grade CT and MRI scans, 3D anatomical models, preoperative planning, and evaluation of training results can be provided on request. Balgrist's certified orthopedic surgeons are also available for clinical consultation upon request.

The Balgrist Congress Center features several meeting rooms and a beautiful auditorium where dry labs, theoretical sessions and symposia can be held. The auditorium has direct video/audio links to both the OR-X and the actual Balgrist operating rooms, enabling us to organize engaging, state-of-the-art course programs.

Additional rooms are available for apéritifs and formal dinners, catered for by our excellent hospitality service.
