Bringing next-level surgical education to this year's edition of the swiss orthopaedics congress

Bringing next-level surgical education to this year's edition of the swiss orthopaedics congress

From 25. to 27. June 2025, Zurich’s Halle 550 became a central meeting point for orthopaedic experts from Switzerland and abroad. The 85th Swiss Orthopaedics Congress ranks among the most important physician events in the country, and this year it focused on the latest advances in cartilage surgery as well as new approaches to treating delayed bone healing and pseudarthrosis. For the second time, we joined the 56 MedTech exhibitors and gave visitors an opportunity to experience firsthand how innovative training methods and modern technologies are shaping the future of surgical practice.

Knowledge Exchange and Hands-on Innovation

More than 2'000 professionals from surgery, research, and hospital management attended this year’s congress to exchange knowledge and discuss developments in orthopaedics. Beyond the scientific sessions, the exhibition floor served as a platform for dialogue and practical demonstrations of new technologies.

Our booth replicated the OR-X environment in a compact setup, offering participants the opportunity to explore modern training solutions. A central element was an AR-assisted simulation of a total hip arthroplasty developed within the PROFICIENCY research project. This project focuses on improving surgical education for both open and minimally invasive procedures using simulator-based methods comparable to flight simulators. It allows future surgeons to practice repeatedly, monitor progress, and address potential complications under controlled conditions. The OR-X and University Hospital Balgrist are actively contributing to this initiative and presented its current status to the orthopaedic community.

Highlighting Our Role in Modern Surgical Education

HIGHLIGHTING OUR ROLE IN MODERN SURGICAL EDUCATION

Over three days, we showcased how structured, technology-supported training contributes to surgical practice and engaged in valuable discussions with specialists from Switzerland and abroad. These exchanges reinforced the importance of innovative education models and gave us the opportunity to present our resident curriculum as part of our ongoing commitment to structured training.
